The word Basso comes from ‘BereBasso’, a local name for traditional sandals made out of old tires. BereBasso very is widely used and is probably the most affordable sandal all across Ethiopia.
Basso was born as an idea in 2015. Following an extensive research on recycled truck tire tubes and years of product development, Basso collection is launched in March 2020.
The Basso collection is made from recycled vehicle tire tubes which otherwise end up in landfills. The tubes we use mainly come from truck tires and are up-cycled into beautiful handcrafted bags that reflect our business ethos of creating products that are high quality, functional, fashionable and environmentally responsible.
Every single piece of our bags are unique as they are handmade with tire tubes that come from various manufacturers with varying patterns, thickness and markings. As unique as each Basso bag is, every single Basso bag has the same quality and superior standards.
Our bags are designed and made in Ethiopia by highly trained artisans and are:
- Waterproof – travel freely in any weather condition
- Impact resistant – it is durable, shock and heat tolerant
- Unique pieces - each tire tube is different; it may have distressed
spots and color variations etc. which allows each Basso bag to be one of its kind.
